Dimensions and steel above are the catalog specification for the reference part. The thickness and material we supply are stated in Supply summary and confirmed at quotation.
P1000-HG — hot-dip galvanized after forming, to ASTM A123. Coats the cut edges and the inside of the holes. Outdoor, wet and coastal service. P1000-PL — plain, uncoated steel, for painting after erection or for dry enclosed runs. Powder-coated — powder coating to a customer-specified RAL color. Not a catalog finish, so it carries no catalog code — the color, which parts take it and the film build are confirmed at quotation. We publish no film thickness and no salt-spray figure, because we have not measured one.
Finish list: Unistrut® General Engineering Catalog no. 17, p. 21 — finishes note. Powder coating is our option, not a catalog finish. The catalog also lists PG / GR against this series — not quoted, see Finishes.
Pack: Sold by the length, bundled. Channel nuts, bolts and end caps are separate part numbers and are not supplied with the channel.
Catalog figures for the reference part, with where each one comes from. Our supply thickness is in Supply summary.

| Corner and bend radii | not published | Not dimensioned on p. 25. The section view shows formed corners but publishes no radius, and we do not compute one. |
| Lip return height | not published | The 9/32 in. (7.1 mm) figure on the p. 25 section view is not labelled against a named feature, so it is not published here as the lip return. |
| Hole edge distance on punched channel | not published | The p. 25 punching panels name only hole size and centers in words. Their drawings carry a few more dimensions the text does not name — 1/2 in. (12.7) and 1 in. (25.4) on SL, 7/8 in. (22.2) and 1-3/16 in. (30.2) on T, 3/4 in. (19.1) on DS — some of them near the drawn end of the length. The catalog does not call any of them a cut-end distance, and where the first hole falls on a cut length depends on where it was cut, so no edge distance is published here. |
Two readings on the section view are worth spelling out. The open-face and lip figures are the 7/8 in. (22.2) and the two 3/8 in. (9.5) dimensions printed across the mouth of the p. 25 section drawing; they add back to the 1-5/8 in. (41.3) overall width, which is how we read which dimension is which. The drawing also carries a 9/32 in. (7.1 mm) dimension that does not tie to a named feature, so it is not restated anywhere on this page.
Punching codes
The punching is a suffix on the same section, not a different profile: P1000 is the plain length and P1000 HS, T, SL, KO, DS and H3 are the same steel with holes in it.
| Code | Punching | Spacing |
|---|---|---|
| (none) | plain, unpunched | — |
| HS | 9/16 in. (14.3) round holes | 1-7/8 in. (47.6) on center |
| T | 1-1/8 x 9/16 in. (28.6 x 14.3) slots | 2 in. (51) on center |
| SL | 3 x 13/32 in. (76.2 x 10.3) slots | 4 in. (101.6) on center |
| KO | 7/8 in. (22.2) knockouts | 6 in. (152.4) on center |
| DS | 2-3/4 x 7/8 in. (69.9 x 22.2) slots | 3-1/2 in. (88.9) on center |
| H3 | 9/16 in. (14.3) round holes | 1-7/8 in. (47.6) on center |
Source: Unistrut® General Engineering Catalog no. 17, p. 25 — printed on the part drawing. H3 prints the same size and spacing text as HS; the catalog does not explain in words how the two differ (the p. 25 diagram is the only difference we can see), so none is asserted here.
Load data for the reference part is in the catalog, pp. 25–26; we do not publish it against parts we supply.
What bolts through it, and where the published data stops.
What bolts to it. Every 1-5/8 in. series fitting and channel nut on this site is cut for this open face. A 1/2 in. bolt through a 9/16 in. fitting hole lands in a P1010 nut; the same thread in the shallow series is P4010 and in the deep series P5510. The channel series changes what the run carries, not which fitting you order.
Series that share this profile. P1100 and P2000 are the identical 1-5/8 in. square section in 14 and 16 gauge, and P1001 is two P1000 welded lip to lip. Nothing about the open face changes across them, so a drawing that says only “1-5/8 in. strut” does not tell you which one was specified — the gauge does.
What the catalog publishes about strength. Unistrut publishes an allowable moment, beam-loading and column-loading tables for P1000 on pp. 25 and 26, and multipliers that reduce those values for punched channel. Those are Unistrut's published figures for Unistrut's channel; they are not reproduced on this page and are not claimed for anything we supply.
What the published cross-reference tables print opposite P1000.
| Brand | Published cross-reference part number |
|---|---|
| B-Line | B22 [S1][S4] |
| Superstrut | A1200 [S1] |
| Power-Strut | PS200 [S1] |
| Haydon | not listed |
Row note: S4 (B-Line BF93XR) also prints Superstrut A-1200 and Kindorf B-900 / B-901 opposite B22.
A published cross-reference number is one thing only: a number a cited document prints opposite this one, as a candidate substitute in the same catalog slot. It carries no load rating, steel grade, coating thickness or third-party listing — each manufacturer publishes those separately and they do not travel with a part number. Source documents, access dates and what to measure before you fit a substitute: Unistrut P1000 cross reference.

What a P1000 actually is
P1000 is the reference length of the whole 1-5/8 in. framing system: a square, cold-formed section 1-5/8 in. on each side, rolled from 12 gauge strip and folded so the two edges turn back inward and face each other across a 7/8 in. gap. Those two returned edges are the entire mechanism of strut. A channel nut goes in through the gap turned sideways, gets a quarter turn, and then bears on the underside of the lips; tightening the bolt pulls the nut up into the serrations and clamps the fitting down on top. Nothing is drilled, nothing is welded, and the joint can be moved anywhere along the length afterwards.
That is why the profile matters more than the brand. Any 1-5/8 in. channel rolled to the same open face takes the same nuts and the same fittings, whoever made it, and why this page publishes the open face as its own line rather than burying it in a profile dimension. What differs between mills is the steel: gauge, grade, how square the corners come out, and whether the lips are formed tightly enough that a nut turns cleanly instead of jamming.
Choosing between P1000 and the series next to it
There are two dials, and they are not interchangeable. The first is gauge at a fixed profile: P1000 is 12 gauge at 0.105 in., P1100 is 14 gauge at 0.075 in., P2000 is 16 gauge at 0.060 in. All three look identical from the open face and all three take the same hardware. The second is depth: P3300 is a shallow 7/8 in. deep section, P5500 is a deep 2-7/16 in. one, and depth is what actually buys span. Depth also changes which channel nut fits, because the nut is cut to the depth of the lip pocket.
The practical rule on a purchase order is to name the part number, not the description. “1-5/8 strut, 12 gauge” is ambiguous between P1000 and P3000, which share a gauge but not a depth. If the drawing came to you as a brand part number, put that number on the inquiry and let the substitute be quoted against it in writing.
Which punching code to order
Plain channel is the default and the cheapest, and it is the right answer whenever the connections are made with channel nuts, which is most of the time. The punched codes exist for the cases where you want to bolt straight through the back of the channel or hang something on a rod without a nut.
HS is the 9/16 in. round hole on 1-7/8 in. centers and is the one to reach for if you want a bolt through the back. T is a narrower slot, 1-1/8 x 9/16 in. on 2 in. centers, which buys lateral adjustment after the run is hung. SL is a wider slot again, 3 x 13/32 in. on 4 in. centers. KO knockouts leave the steel closed until you punch one out, which suits electrical work. DS is a double-width slot that lets a pipe clamp mount on either side of the channel and loses the most steel of the set. H3 prints the same round-hole size and spacing as HS; the catalog does not spell out in words how the two differ, so we do not invent a distinction here. Whatever you pick, put the code on the line as a suffix and confirm the supplier reads it as a suffix and not as a separate part number.
Checking an incoming length
Three measurements settle a delivery, and the first two catch nearly everything.
1. Caliper the steel thickness on a cut end and compare the gauge with your quotation. Measure away from a hole and away from a formed corner, where the metal has been worked. The catalog nominal for this reference part is 12 gauge, 0.105 in. (2.7 mm); our gauge is confirmed at quotation, not fixed to that figure. Under-gauge stock is the substitution that matters and the one you cannot see: 14 gauge at 0.075 in. photographs identically. Take three readings along the stick, not one.
2. Measure across the open face: 7/8 in. (22.2 mm). Caliper the gap between the two lips at several points along the length. This is the dimension that decides whether your existing nuts turn. A lip formed a sixteenth too tight will bind the nut; too loose and the nut will pull through under load.
3. Measure the outside: 1-5/8 in. (41.3 mm) both ways. Square section, so check both. A section that measures square but has the open face out of tolerance has been formed with the wrong lip length.
Then look at the finish. Pre-galvanized channel has bright, uncoated steel at every cut end and inside every punched hole, because the strip was coated before it was formed; hot-dip galvanized channel is coated after forming, so the ends and the holes are coated too, with a visible spangle and a heavier, uneven build-up. A length marked HG with bare cut ends is PG in an HG box, and outdoors that difference is the whole finish decision.

What we can quote against this part number
We do not manufacture these parts and we are not Unistrut. We source them. The item we can quote against Unistrut P1000 is 1-5/8 x 1-5/8 in. 12 gauge strut channel — a candidate substitute made to order by a contract manufacturer, offered for inquiry, not an original-manufacturer part.

These are the published Unistrut catalog dimensions we build to, each with the page it is printed on. The thickness row is the exception: it states what we supply, not a catalog figure. They are geometry only. No load, torque or listing figure is claimed for our part: none has been tested on it, and a figure published for a Unistrut part is evidence about that part, not about ours.
